Ayurveda suggests that good health starts with proper digestion (Agni). When Agni is strong, nutrition is assimilated fully, preventing the accumulation of toxins (Ama). Conversely, a weak or irregular Agni leads to fermentation, gas, bloating, and systemic imbalances.
To keep your Agni burning bright, Ayurveda recommends simple yet powerful daily habits. First, avoid drinking iced water with meals, as it acts like water thrown on a fire. Opt instead for warm water or a ginger tea infusion. Second, only eat when you are genuinely hungry—this ensures that the previous meal has been fully processed.
Classical Ayurvedic herbs like Sunthi (dry ginger), Pippali (long pepper), and Maricha (black pepper) — collectively known as Trikatu — are excellent for stimulating digestion. Formulas containing natural carminatives, such as mint (Pudina) and camphor (Kapoor), provide swift cooling relief to irritated stomach linings while regulating muscle spasms.
